Next Porsche 911 Spotted, Rumored to Feature Wider Range of Powertrains

The Porsche 911 is without question the most famous sports car in the world. So it comes as no surprise to Porsche Silver Spring that anticipation and excitement for upcoming eighth-generation 911 are at an all-time high.

What’s in store for the next 911?

As reported by the UK’s Car magazine, a test mule thought to be testing components of the next-generation 911 was recently spotted. It boasted wheel arches both front and rear that were noticeably wider, suggesting a wider track, which should offer even better grip and handling.

While current-generation 911 models received a host of updates--including a new family of turbocharged engines--it was originally launched in 2011, so it’s understandable that Porsche is working hard on a replacement.

Hello, hybrid?

There aren’t many official details right now, but we do know that the next iteration of the Porsche 911 is due to land in 2019, will be built on a new modular platform, and will feature a wider range of powertrains, including, perhaps, a hybrid model.

We already know that Porsche is working on a pure-electric production model based on the gorgeous Mission E concept, slated to debut in 2020. A hybrid model seems very much a possibility, with Porsche chairman Oliver Blume saying as much to CAR in the magazine’s October 2016 issue.

Of course, that doesn’t mean an end to the traditional Porsche powertrains, far from it, but buyers will certainly have more options going forward.

Porsche Silver Spring can’t wait to learn more details about the next-generation Porsche 911, and you can count on us to share that information with you as soon as we know more.
