2016 Porsche Panamera Edition
New for 2016
The Panamera returns for 2016 with a new 'Edition' model that couples distinctive design touches with a host of upgraded tech features. It replaces the Platinum Edition.
The Definitive Edition
While the Porsche brand has rightfully become synonymous with sports cars, it’s also steadily building a portfolio of vehicles that marry power and practicality in a way that is, well, uniquely Porsche. Case in point: the 2016 Porsche Panamera Edition.
The Panamera Edition is a new special version of the Porsche Panamera sports sedan. It features elegant and distinctive design touches combined with an expanded range of standard equipment, making it one stylish and value-packed Porsche.
Powertrains and Performance
Like the standard Panamera, the 2016 Porsche Panamera Edition can be had in either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive (AWD models are designated with the number 4). Powering both models is a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 that creates 310 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to Porsche's world-famous seven-speed dual-clutch (PDK) transmission.
As we mentioned earlier, the Panamera 4 Edition features active all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch (Porsche Traction Management, PTM).
It's also worth noting that the Edition model benefits from a number of technologies that improve handling and overall drivability, including Active Suspension Management and Power Steering Plus.
Features and Trims
The 2016 Porsche Panamera Edition starts at $80,000* and is available in two trims: Panamera Edition and Panamera 4 Edition.
In addition to last year's standard equipment, the Panamera Edition boasts an expanded range of equipment. This includes 14-way comfort seats in front, including comfort memory package, as well as seat heating in the front and rear.
The Panamera Edition also features Porsche's Communication Management (PCM) system with seven-inch touchscreen. The PCM system is truly impressive, and combines audio, navigation, and other communication capabilities. For audiophiles, the Panamera Edition ensures an outstanding audio experience thanks to a 14-speaker, 585-watt Bose® Surround system.
Design
While subtle, the 2016 Porsche Panamera Edition's exterior distinguishes itself in a number of ways, beginning with high-gloss black trim strips on the side windows. The Panamera Edition also borrows the standard 19-inch Panamera Turbo II's alloy wheel design, but expands on it with center wheel caps that feature a colored Porsche crest. Opting for the Edition with Porsche Entry & Drive package adds body-colored door handles.
Step inside and the Panamera Edition further distinguishes itself with a two-tone, Black/Luxor Beige interior. All Edition models also feature the Porsche crest embossed on all head rests. A Sport Design steering wheel is standard, and exclusive to the model are door sill plates with "Edition" lettering, as well as special floor mats.
The Panamera in all its guises still represents a more practical approach to sporty driving. As such, the sedan’s generous luggage volume, which offers up 15.7 cubic-feet with rear seats up and swells to 44.6 cubic-feet with those same seats folded down, is sure to please owners.
Safety
The 2016 Porsche Panamera Edition features a robust standard safety suite that includes antilock brakes, stability control, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags and front knee airbags. Also included is Park Assist front and rear including reversing camera and the aforementioned Power Steering Plus.
Bottom Line
The 2016 Porsche Panamera Edition represents a smart choice for buyers that want a sports car but require something a bit more practical. Despite its four doors and ample passenger and cargo space, the Panamera Edition is a Porsche in every sense of the word.
