Overview
Like its sister, the 718 Cayman, the 2019 Porsche 718 Boxster borrows a part of its name from the iconic Porsche 718 racecars of the 1950s and early 1960s. As we've come to expect from the bautiful two-seat drop top, the Boxster is small, agile, and holds driving purity in its heart. With its turbocharged four-cylinder engine and exciting features like adaptive suspension and a more powerful GTS model, the 2019 718 Boxster is a classic convertible with a modern twist.
The Perfect Ride for…
Anyone looking for a sleek, speedy sports car that can, at the touch of a button, put the top back, the wind in your hair, and the sun on your skin. Engineered to provide nimble handling and maximize driver enjoyment, the Boxster is as pure a sports car experience as you'll find anywhere.
Drive & Handling
For 2019, the 718 Boxster comes in three distinct flavors: base, S, and GTS. Prices start at $59,000 for the base Boxster, $71,400 for the S, and $82,800 for the Boxster GTS model.*
The beating heart of the base Boxster is a powerful and efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged flat four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Step up to the S model, and power increases to 350 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque, thanks to a larger 2.5-liter flat four with a variable-geometry turbo. Both engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while a PDK dual-clutch automated transmission is available as an option.
Check off the GTS box on the options list, and things get even more exciting. This top-tier Boxster model uses the same engine as the S model, but it makes even more power: 365 hp with a claimed top speed of 180 mph. The GTS model also benefits from a host of distinct parts and specific tuning that help make it the ultimate expression of the Boxster DNA.
With the PDK and optional Sport Chrono Package (the fastest configuration available), the 2019 718 Boxster will dash to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 170 mph. That’s 0.7 seconds and 8 mph faster than the previous Boxster. The 718 Boxster S will make that same run in just 4.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 177 mph, some 0.5 seconds and 5 mph faster than before. Jump on the loud pedal in the GTS, and 60 mph is dispensed within a blistering 3.9 seconds.
The Boxster has always been about more than just straight-line performance, however. To keep its reflexes sharp, the automaker endowed the 718 with a completely re-tuned suspension and tweaked electric power steering that Porsche claims is 10 percent more responsive than previous generation cars. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is also available as an option, bringing a lower ride height and adjustability that beautifully balances ride comfort and performance.
