Drive & Handling
It starts with the bones. The Porsche 911 Turbo chassis was designed with a combination of high-strength steel and strong, lightweight metals to produce a rigid but responsive car that smoothly manages tight turns, while offering safety and aerodynamic efficiency. Then the automaker added the formidable 3.8-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo boxer engine.
In both the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo Cabriolet, the engine churns out an impressive 540 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque, sent to all four wheels via the all-wheel drive powertrain. In the 911 Turbo S and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, that engine produces up to 580 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
All Porsche 911 Turbo models feature the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. This seven-gear wonder of engineering has two clutches, so that the next gear is always pre-selected, resulting in the fastest gear changes possible, which reduces the interruption of power flow, and helps the 911 Turbo produce blindingly fast 0-60 mph times.
The Porsche 911 Turbo uses rear axle steering to make this sports car more practical in daily use and more agile on the road. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels, making it easier to park and maneuver the car in tight areas. At high speeds, the wheels work together to promote precision and stability.
Porsche Active Suspension Management reads the road and automatically adapts the damping system to the ever-changing conditions. By adapting each wheel to road conditions, available traction, and other factors, body roll is reduced and each wheel has increased contact and grip.
