Celebrate National Car Care Month with Us

National Car Care Month comes twice a year—once in April and once in October. These observance months come just before summer and winter, the two harshest seasons on vehicles. It's important to have your car thoroughly inspected for any excessive wear to prepare for the season ahead. Here are some things the Porsche Silver Spring team thinks are essential during National Car Care Month in October to prepare for winter driving conditions.
Have Your Battery Tested
Harsh weather conditions can wreak havoc on your battery. Have your mechanic test your battery so you know it'll be reliable through the winter. In winter, battery issues often arise, as the colder temperatures make car batteries more vulnerable to failure.
Check Fluid Levels
The summer heat can cause many of your vehicle's fluids to work overtime. Coolant, brake fluid, clutch fluid, transmission fluid, oil, and differential fluid should all be checked. Make sure they're at proper levels, clean, and free of any water or debris. Even if the fluids look okay, they do break down over time, so keep track of when they were last flushed.
Check All Lights
Longer nights mean more time burning headlamps and tail lamps. Have all your lights inspected for safe brightness and proper illumination. It's a great time to also check side markers, turn signals, and brake lights.
Inspect Brakes and Tires
Traction and braking distance are even more important in winter than they were in the summer. Slippery road conditions and worn-out brakes or tires are a dangerous combination. Make sure you have plenty of tire tread and brake pad material left before winter weather strikes.
Replace Windshield Wipers
Icy precipitation can make ineffective windshield wipers even worse. Pair that with longer nights and you have a recipe for terrible visibility. A fresh pair of wiper blades before winter is a small safety measure that goes a long way.
