Porsche Secures 19th Le Mans Victory
This year’s win is the third consecutive triumph for the Porsche team
Porsche models are built to thrill (as many of our clients know), and they do it best on the track. This year, the Porsche Silver Spring team was thrilled to cheer on the Porsche 919 model that took first place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.
The Porsche 919 Hybrid was driven by Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard, and Brendon Hartley who— together with the rest of the Porsche team—brought their team back from the 56th position after an hour of repairs mid-race to first place, overtaking the LMP2 category Oreca within the last hour of the race.
"It was absolutely crazy," said Bamber. "When I heard it [the engine] go 'bang,' I thought 100 percent our race was over. The guys turned it around. We thought we would finish in the top five. But this race really chooses you when it wants you to win."
Bamber and Bernhard celebrated their second Le Mans win, and Hartley was arguably most thrilled over the heart-pounding finish that secured his first Le Mans victory.
This year’s race marks 85 years of sports car performance, and Porsche’s win brings the total Le Mans victories for the automaker to 19. The Porsche team has most recently claimed victory in 2015, 2016, and now 2017, earning itself special recognition for its performance capabilities.
