Porsche Unveils 'World's First Interactive Hologram Print Ad'
When it comes to innovation in advertising, it’s no secret that print has fallen behind digital and social media. More and more brands are spending less on traditional advertising and focusing their marketing efforts digitally. Porsche, in true Porsche fashion, is taking a different approach and trying to marry the two.
Porsche is using its state-of-the-art technology and engineering expertise and applying it to the world of print advertising with its new hologram ad showcasing the 911’s history.
Porsche calls it “the world’s first interactive hologram print ad,” and it consists of a four-page spread in the April issue of Fast Company magazine. The spread features the 2017 911, an acetate prism, and instructions on how to use it, which lets readers view the venerated sports car as a hologram when placed atop a mobile device.
According to AdWeek, the project was made in collaboration with C-K and a total of 150,000 prisms have been created, including 100,000 glass versions that were distributed via direct mail.
In an interview with the magazine, Marshal Ross, C-K’s chief executive officer details some of the challenges his team faced, including the need for a painstaking amount of trial an error to get the video to project properly in the prism.
The prism itself proved a challenge as well, taking several months to engineer, and to ensure the best viewing angle for users.
As a Porsche owner, you’re well aware of the brand’s penchant for innovation, but the company’s latest effort goes beyond expectation, and reiterates Porsche’s desire to create unique experiences.
