The Road Ahead: What to Expect from Porsche in 2019

As a leader in innovation, technology, and performance, we expect big things from Porsche in 2019. From ground-breaking new models to game-changing innovations, Porsche is already poised to outdo itself this year. Here are a few of the biggest headlines coming in 2019.

An All-New Macan

When Porsche entered the SUV segment many years ago, the public was understandably dubious. How can a brand known for light-weight high-energy sportscars possibly build unstoppable all-terrain vehicles? Now, after multiple generations of the Cayenne and Macan, Porsche sets the standard for versatility and capability. For 2019, Porsche offers the next generation of its compact SUV, which combines the sportiness and luxury the brand is known for with everyday practicality crossover drivers want.

The 2019 Macan (pictured top) offers updated performance features that ensure maximum ability in any terrain. The active all-wheel-drive system Porsche Traction Management (PTM) delivers confidence-inspiring traction and handling no matter what’s under the wheels, and the optional air suspension autonomously modifies ride height, guaranteeing comfort on any terrain.

For those that want the most power, the Macan S trim comes standard with a beefy 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, generating 348 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. This increase from previous generations results in a thrilling 0 to 60-launch time of just under 5 seconds when upgraded to the available Sport Chrono package, as well as a top speed of 157 mph.

And An All-New Cayenne Turbo

The larger of Porsche’s luxury SUVs also comes back with a redesigned model this year. The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (pictured above) will raise the bar for performance in the Cayenne line. Using a massive 4.0-liter twin turbo V8, the new Cayenne Turbo will offer even more power than last year’s Turbo S at 541 horsepower and 567 lb-ft of torque.

On top of all that power, the new Cayenne Turbo will inspire confidence on and off the roads, thanks to a combination of innovative new all-terrain-driving technology. Porsche engineers add incomparable new developments—such as a three-chamber air suspension, staggered tire sizes, and new high-performance Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) technology—to offer a level of driving dynamics unheard of in most SUVs.

The Eighth Generation of an Icon

How does one improve upon perfection? If it’s possible, Porsche has what it takes. And it looks like they’ve pulled it off with the all-new Porsche 911 (video above). For the 2019 model year, Porsche offers a new generation of one of the most iconic models in its lineup. The 2019 911 Carrera maintains its legendary silhouette while drawing power from one of the most advanced powertrains that can be called street-legal.

Just take a moment to soak in these numbers:

  • 443 horsepower
  • 390 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.3 second 0 to 60-time, with Sport Chrono Package
  • 191 mph top track speed

With a ground-breaking twin-turbo boxer six in the rear, 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), drivers will enjoy sporty performance and efficiency like never before. The all-wheel-drive combines with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) to intelligently distribute power to the wheels using sophisticated algorithms and the onboard computer, making decisions in milliseconds to ensure optimal traction at high speeds.

Panamera Range Grows

Porsche adds two new Panamera models to the already-impressive lineup of the sleek and powerful luxury sedans. The new Porsche Panamera GTS and Porsche Panamera GTS Sport Turismo models (both pictured above) fall between the Panamera 4S and Panamera Turbo variants, offering two additional options for customers looking for a sportier driving experience.

These models will use a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, producing a peak output of 453 horses and 457 lb-ft of torque, slightly higher than the previous Panamera GTS’ naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8. With an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and the standard Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel-drive system, these GTS models can accelerate from 0 to 60 in a fiery 3.9 seconds with a top track speed of 181 mph.

Standard equipment on the 2019 Panamera GTS and GTS Sport Turismo include the Sport Chrono package (a premium in other models) and a Sport Exhaust system, as well as the Sport Design package that adds black exterior elements like exhaust tips and 20-inch wheels. Inside, the interior trim will feature black Alcantara®, anodized aluminum appointments, and heated multifunction sport steering wheel in Alcantara trim.

And Now For Something Completely Different:

Say it with me now: “Taycan.” Porsche’s first all-electric model, previously known simply as Mission E, has been christened with its official name. Roughly translating as “lively young horse,” the forthcoming Porsche Taycan (pictured below) represents a turning point for the brand that has always been on the leading edge of automotive evolution.

Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom.

- Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG

Porsche has already announced its commitment to investing billions of dollars (six billion euros to be exact) in electromobility by 2022, and if that means we will get more exciting innovations like the Taycan, then we say bring it on. The Taycan’s two permanently activated synchronous motors will generate a combined system output of over 600 horsepower, accelerate the all-electric monster to 60 mph in well under 3.5 seconds, and hit 124 mph on the track in less than twelve seconds. On top of all that, Porsche expects the Taycan deliver a range of over 300 miles on a single charge without using a drop of gasoline.

…And This is Just the Beginning

Porsche is kicking off the new year with a bang, and this is just the beginning.
